What could be better than attending the live performance of the Nutcracker? Dancing the ballet yourself, of course!
Celebrate the splendor of the holiday season and the magic of the Nutcracker story in our popular Nutcracker Workshops for Ages 3–13. We’ll reenact this holiday classic by dancing many favorite roles, such as Clara & the Nutcracker Doll Solo or Dance of the Falling Snowflakes in ACT I, and Angels Dance & Greet the Sugar Plum Fairy or Waltz of the Flowers in ACT II.

{ 2011 Nutcracker Workshops }

Nutcracker Workshops for Ages 7–13 December 29th & 30th

In these three-hour workshops designed for ages 7-13, students will learn Clara’s solo dance with her new Nutcracker Doll, then her role in the rescue of the Nutcracker followed by a dance with her partner, the Nutcracker Prince. For these Act I dances, students will get the special opportunity to wear Clara’s actual party dress, nightgown, robe and crown from a professional wardrobe made for the full-length ballet on a big stage. In the second Act I Workshop, students will learn a beautiful dance of the falling Snowflakes in the Land of the Snow in lovely white tutus.

In the Act II two-hour workshops, students will learn a beautiful dance in gorgeous satin dresses for the Angels who anticipate the arrival of the Sugar Plum Fairy. In the second Act II Workshop students will learn steps and phrases from the beautiful waltz of the flowers danced in pretty flower tutus!

In all the workshops we will have a break-time for water bottles (provided) and some yoga for relaxation time. Students will decorate a Happy New Year scene to take home!

  Act I Thursday, Dec. 29th 1:00 – 4:00 pm Ripley-Grier Studios
  Act II Friday, Dec. 30th 1:00 – 4:00 pm Ripley-Grier Studios

Nutcracker Workshops for Ages 3–6 December 29th - January 2nd

In these two-hour workshops students get to dress-up as either Clara or Fritz and dance and act out the story ballet of the Nutcracker. In the Act I workshops we will dance with hobby horses in the Party Scene, act out the battle of the mice and soldiers, and then journey to the Land of Snow where we dance as the falling snowflakes. In the Act II workshops, after learning a pantomime to relay the battle story to the Sugar Plum Fairy, we will learn a selection of dances from the Land of Sweets: Spanish, Chinese, Trepak, Reed Flutes, Bon-Bons and Sugar Plum Fairy, too! After break-time for water bottles (provided) and yoga, we will stage the story ballet ourselves with a toy theater, paper dolls and stickers. The arts-and-crafts portion of the workshop is an opportunity for the students to create their very own Winter Wonderland Scene (Act I craft), or Gingerbread House Scene (Act II craft) to take home.

  Act I Thursday, Dec. 29th 10:00 am – noon Ripley-Grier Studios
  Act I Saturday, Dec. 31st 10:00 am – noon Ripley-Grier Studios
  Act II Friday, Dec. 30th 10:00 am – noon Ripley-Grier Studios
  Act II Monday, Jan 2nd 3:00 – 5:00 pm Ripley-Grier Studios
